I went to the cinema alone last night, as per usual. As I waited for the doors to open I noticed the other solitary punters and a thought crossed my mind. How do you meet a cinephile?
I've been to film groups and taken filmmaking courses. I've met plenty of nice people who love movies, but none afflicted with quite the same obsession that I have. Yet I know there are others out there, I've seen them online.
I'm searching for someone who watches hundreds of films each year. Whose idea of a good time is an old foreign film that's too obscure to ever get a restoration or a boutique release. Someone that gets a thrill from checking every film off a director's oeuvre. A real addict to the celluloid succubus.
