Hope it's okay to share, but please eradicate if necessary, mods! Just wanted to share how me and my boyfriend met here to encourage people to keep going. Here's the full story:

A good friend of mine met her soon-to-be-husband on this subreddit and recommended it to me in 2021. She's a journalist and filmmaker who had enough of the dating apps and found the subreddit's "classifieds" approach to be more fitting of someone as thoughtful and intelligent as her (a professional who is also very busy with work and doesn't have the time nor energy to waste on swiping and getting ghosted multiple times per week).

I posted here on and off up until I found him in May 2022. I'm from Canada and he's from the US. We instantly connected over movies, psychology, food, our sense of humor, politics, similar struggles with family, etc. From the moment we connected, we didn't stop talking every day. It went from texting about everything to daily 3-5 hour video calls in the evenings that we never wanted to end.

Today, I'm sitting in our living room in Canada. He's been here for the past 5 months and we're planning a life together. There are struggles, of course, but for the first time in both of our lives the challenges feel like they're not a big deal and we can overcome them together. Neither one of us ever had that in a partner. It's the best relationship we've both ever been in.

Anyway, here are a couple of polaroids of some of our favorite trips so far (NYC and Olympic National Park). I hope our story gives some of you the fuel to keep trying on this subreddit. It's the best way to escape the apps and connect with people that are truly on your level :)

Edit: My best tip for those still trying is to write very detailed posts. Make a list of all the things you're interested in, whether it's hobbies or things you spend a lot of time thinking about. It can feel like you're dumping too much information, but the right person will reach out and have a lot to get started with. You don't even need a funny eye-catching title because that's not a guarantee that you'll match with the right person. Just focus on putting as much of yourself out there as possible so you can filter out the people who don't make sense for you. Good luck :)
