Hi guys,
I was recently awarded modship of this sub on /r/redditrequest, so thought I'd pop by and say hi.
I'm not a Friend myself: I'm a practising Catholic and a pretty active poster on /r/christianity and /r/catholicism. Why, then, did I want to become mod of /r/Quakers? First off, I know a few Quakers IRL and have an awful lot of respect for this denomination: its emphasis on peace and equality is something I'd like to see an awful lot more of in the world, and I'm interested in learning more about it.
Second, and more importantly, I've seen good subs get ruined before by trolls who were awarded them on /r/redditrequest solely with a view to diverting them from their original purpose: /r/Catholic and /r/xkcd are just two examples of subs where that's happened. I didn't want that to happen here so I took the precaution of requesting it before a troll could.
This place clearly prefers light-touch moderation and I'll respect that, unless the community prefers me to do otherwise. I don't intend to go mad with power: I hope to mod a few people once I have a better feel for the community, so if you're interested just send me a PM or modmail.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to get to know you all a bit better from here on out.
Peace and love,
