I'm an ex-Catholic with some fairly heterodox ideas about God and the religious life. One thing I've taken to heart, though, is that God is constantly "in communication" in the people, things, and experiences of daily life. This seems close to what some quakers also believe about God's revelation not ending and all people having something of God in them.
Still, I got a bit of a conservative vibe during certain moments of the Quakerspeak videos. For example, in this video
a guy says that the divine presence is more clear when "we come together as a community". He was obviously referencing Quaker meetings. But this seems a bit contradictory. If all people are revealing something of God, why would specifically Quaker meetings be special? The people you meet on the street or in your family during daily life should be sufficient for this.
Another thing was when he says that Quakers believe one should "let their life speak". While I agree that actions are more important than abstract theological beliefs, letting people's lives speak can sometimes be a terrible idea. Sometimes people have traumas, bad habits, etc, and this causes their lives to look awful and loserish. But it's often not totally their fault. They still have God in them, too. This kinda gave me the vibe that Quakers use worldly success (for example, in business) as a guage of character or holiness, which seems like a bad idea. I've also found reddit comments from a person who tried out Quakerism and said he left because he felt like he had to be this perfect person at all times.
Here's the video: https://youtu.be/3H08cyXVYDw?si=2pQDv8pZdvFIMew1.
Personally, I discovered Quakerism through this YouTuber, which I feel is a good representation of Quakerism in the UK and is pretty liberal. (She has several videos on this topic).
