Hi Friends! We're doing an episode of Thee Quaker Podcast about online Quaker communities next week, and I thought I'd reach out to folks here:
- Why did you choose to join this subreddit?
- What have you noticed about the community interactions on Quaker reddit?
- Has this subreddit played a role in your spiritual journey?
- How would you describe r/Quakers to someone who isn't familiar with reddit?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes a moment to answer! We may reach out with a follow-up.
Edit: Thanks so much for all of your thoughtful responses! I've reached out to a couple of you to see if we can use your comment in our upcoming episode.
I joined because much like my reason for attending Quakers, it's the search for community and like-minded people
My impression of this subreddit is that it is very supportive and helpful, and mostly young adults posting questions about attending their first meeting, and so it can be a way to support new curious people discover Quakers
I'm not sure it has added to my spiritual journey exactly, but I still feel it is valuable and important, as it enables young adults to discover Quakers and maybe start their spiritual journey.
I guess I would describe it as an online discussion forum which focuses on different topics, one of which is Quakers, these forums enable anyons curious about a topic to ask questions in a safe anonymous and non-judgemental way, but also enables people who are established in the topic to share in-depth experiences or deep dive questions to others and feel a sense of community, where in real like young adult Quakers might be only one every few meeting houses spread across the country. So it's a way to bring people together without the barrier of distance.
