Quakers have a long-standing policy of supporting the Palestinian people. Likewise, Quakers also support the people of Israel. The argument being that both people have a right to self-government.
This has, occasionally, gotten Quakers in trouble in the US. Maybe 5-6 years ago a New York Times op-Ed called out the Quakers as being anti-Jew. Regardless of accuracy, simply being named as such has repercussions.
The question now is how should Quakers talk about the current Israeli-Hammas conflict? Clearly, Hammas attacked first. Clearly, Hammas is funded by destabilizing regimes. And clearly, Israel has a right to defend itself.
Yet israel at least in part created the situation; when a people have no political power, violence is almost inevitable. Also, Hammas is not exactly working for the everyday Palestinian. And Israeli actions like cutting off electricity to the Gaza Strip sounds an awful like like ‘kill them all and let god sort them out’.
The AFSC has a circulating petition against the Israeli apartide regime. Should Quakers still support this petition? How should we talk about this conflict?

You can call for a ceasefire and a lasting peace and uplift the voices of people who are hurting call your reps, go to peaceful marches, send letters etc. If you’re in the US this is our responsibility

What do you mean by antisemitism? We’ve been working a lot with Jewish orgs and have consistently condemned antisemitism. Criticism of Israel is not the same thing and conflating the state of Israel with antisemitism is incredibly hurtful for my Jewish friends as they have told me emphatically

Oh come on- none of that is true. If the Israeli government is targeting militants and they know where they are why not target the militants and get the tunnels rather than bombing the schools, hospitals, and refugee camps. It’s wild to me that you put innocent in quotes when we’re talking about 6,000 dead children. They’ve been carpet bombing, that’s not the same as using human shields. If a militant is standing behind a child and using that child to shield them maybe that could be called a human shield, but killing thousands of families in their homes while they sleep can’t possibly be justified. I just don’t understand this perspective. They’re pointing out their own AFSC employees on the ground who have been murdered, and they did condemn the 10/7 attack. The majority of Palestinians don’t even support Hamas
