I started reading George Fox as well as Faith and Practice and am greatly attracted to Quakerism.
I've attended worship twice now and the silence was beautiful and I leave feeling refreshed, however I was a bit shocked by the behavior of some members.
I had a member approach me and talk to me about "Orgasmic Meditation" and "clitoral stimulation" and how to raise Kundalini to achieve some enlightened state. When speaking to another member they said George Fox shouldn't be listened too and they were "moving away from all the Jesus and God stuff"
I was pretty shocked and felt like I had stumbled upon a new age group.
It's the only meeting in my area, I know God is in everyone and I dont want to judge. Maybe theres something deeper I dont see ? I just know I felt very uncomfortable, I want to explore the faith deeper. I know you have no creeds or dogmas, but surely there must be some type of morality or mutual understanding ? Can you divorce quakerism from Belief in God and basic morality?
I'm really sorry you experienced this. I have never heard or experienced anything like this at a Quaker meeting, so I would say this is pretty unusual and you are unlikely to see this in other groups if you find another meeting in your region you want to try to trend. There are also online meetings if you prefer.
