Alright, long story short - I've got a friend that helped me out a few years ago, and I'd like to bring him to QuakeCon 2011. That said, the best fare from North Carolina to Texas I can find is $178, which I'm not sure I can come up with in the next two months (I don't make a lot of money). This is with Greyhound, on a 50% discount.

Guess what I'm asking for is suggestions on how I could get him here a bit cheaper. He currently has no job, so there's no way for him to help out on it.

I do have a hotel room booked that I could cancel if I absolutely need to... just kind of want to have my cake and eat it too, I guess :P Hotel is the Best Western next to the Anatole, so if there's something cheaper still in the area feel free to mention that as well.
