I (28F) just received a letter from my exbf (36M). We broke up because he fell for QAnon. There were other issues of course, but this was the main reason. It just became too crazy. He's an engineer. He's smart. How could he fall for this?

I always tried to be the calm, questioning presence. Where did you find this? Is it a credible source? But how would that work? Etc. You get what I mean.

I think it slowed down the process, but didn't stop it. I lost him. And as heartbreaking as it was, I let go.

Now, 5mo later, I get this letter. Telling me that nobody understands him like I do. That I was the only smart one, because I wasn't as brainwashed by mainstream media as others. That he made a lot of money with bitcoin because he found hidden hints online... that he still refuses to wear a mask.

It breaks my heart all over again. I miss him. I miss the person he was. I shouldn't even respond because I can't save him. But how could I do that to him?

Idk. I'm sad. Any advice?

About the money: apparently he invested his savings in October2020 and pulled out now. Idk how much he made. I think he's just proud/happy about that. Due to sad circumstances (death of a parent) I'm much wealthier than him anyways.

About the letter: he did ask how I was and stuff... but I guess that's the bare minimum. I truly think he misses me, but as many of you pointed out, it's still manipulation.

About the future: I will probably write a "ghost letter" back like a kind user suggested, getting it all out and then not send it.
