TLDR: Is anyone else not sure about Define replacing Reform?
What does everyone think about Define? To be honest, I was super disappointed when they stopped doing Reform because Reform was WONDERFUL for me. I know everyone’s body is different and for me, I saw and felt results super quickly with Reform. It was my favorite class. I understand the importance of strength training, but to be honest, I have not been impressed with Define. The class format is different every single time (no actual format) and I feel like it doesn’t know what it wants to be (if that makes sense). What I mean by that is sometimes it feels like a strength class, sometimes it feels like a cardio class, and sometimes I feel like I’m just doing odd things.
Also, sometimes the weights I use our way too heavy for a certain exercises, but then when we go to a different exercise, the same set of dumbbells is too light. I then am running to the back to grab different weights (which I feel is distracting and embarrassing), only to need to switch to another set when the exercise changes. It feels chaotic and hard to discern what kind of weights I should grab for that class.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I l LOVE Pure Barre! This might sound dramatic, but it really and truly changed my life. It changed my life when I started taking it and that was in the pre-Reform days! Then they added Reform, and I loved it even more! I was just super disappointed when they dropped that class format. My my disappointment was slightly eased when they told me that they were adding a new (Define) and that it was gonna be great and focus on a lot of strength training, etc. Now that I’ve been doing Define for several weeks, I still feel disappointed.
Another thing that disappointed me was that a Pure Barre stopped doing Reform classes altogether in exchange for Define and Align. I know Align is a less intense class by nature and focuses on flexibility in balance. I think that’s great, but for me, if I’m going to spend so much money on a fitness membership, I need the classes to be more intense. I myself am quite flexible so I don’t need classes that just focus on flexibility and balance. I would do better with just having Align intensives rather than having Align as a regular class. Having it as a regular class takes time slots away from more intense classes, which I got much better results from. For me, I would personally appreciate it more if both Reform and Define were class options and Align more of an occasional intensive. However, I do understand that everyone’s body is different and everyone’s preferences are different and the studios must do what they feel the most people are going to benefit from.
I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts. Has anyone else had the same experience? I know things take time and perhaps I should just be more patient in terms of feeling stronger, seeing and feeling results, etc but but like I said, with Reform, I got all those things and now with Define, I’m just not getting it. I’d love to hear any thoughts, advice, etc. Thank you all in advance. Also, this is my first ever Reddit post so I hope I am doing it right!
