Solo Traveler Heading to PR 3/24-3/29

Post Body

Iā€™m so grateful for Reddit! Iā€™ve been combing through posts between this subreddit and r/PuertoRico and couldnā€™t be more excited for my second solo trip. As Iā€™m piecing together my itinerary I have some specific questions:

- Has anyone rented a car recently? What was your experience like? Iā€™ve seen mixed reviews. Iā€™m over 25 or whatever if that makes any difference in your feedback. Iā€™d like to drive to El Yunque and possibly throughout the island (any other places I should see specifically if I do rent a car?). Iā€™m aware that the roads arenā€™t in great condition but in live in Chicago and theyā€™re equally as shitty here. Whatā€™s night driving like? Someone was like ā€œabsolutely donā€™t do itā€, but Iā€™m always wary when I see stuff like that.

Right now, Iā€™m slated to be there for 5 days (Sunday to Thursday, Fly out on Friday @ like 1AM), but I have an opportunity to extend my trip. This would allow me to stay until Saturday morning, which lets me party on a Friday night. Should I do it?

Here are some things I have on my itinerary, what would you suggest I add?

- See all the things in Old San Juan Salsa Dance!!

- Day Trip to El Yunque to hike/do the Rainforest Water Slide

- Go to Vieques specifically for the bioluminescent bay (what else is there to do there?)

*Is this worth abandoning the rental car (if I do decide to do it), getting a flight/securing night at The Lazy Hostel or is the one in Fajardo just as good? This has been on my bucket list for years so if Iā€™m going to do it. I want to do it right. Also, Iā€™m doing an electric boat, because Iā€™m not trying to kayak through mangroves and stir those bacteria up by myself. Fuck what yaā€™ heard.

Thank you all tremendously in advance for your feedback. Sorry, this is super long! Some things I did not include, are like alcoholic tours - Iā€™m not a big drinker - and Iā€™m open to some food recommendations. Usually, when I travel Iā€™ll have like 1-2 specific dine out meals, but I try to make all my food myself.
