My girlfriend and I are traveling to Puerto Rico. We live in a rural area of the states and our summer-time hobby is to just go drive around the local area and state park and find places along the creeks and river to hang out and swim and enjoy the day. I'd imagine PR has some places like this. Places less known by tourists, etc.
El Yunque looks cool but I'd imagine it's quite busy, which is okay, and I still may just go there for a day, but I also know how much more preferable the quiet trails at home are.
Utuado caving tour looks super cool! That's honestly what sparked this whole idea; I'd love to find a nice secluded waterfall cave area, but I know it's unrealistic to embark on a journey to find one of these over a day trip.
I'm sure there's plenty to keep me busy without having to get creative, but this is just one idea I had and I'm thinking it'd be a pretty cheap option.
Sweetheart it’s not you I am concerned about. It’s the girlfriend you mentioned. So are you going alone or with a girl? Bc your last message never mentions her.
Just be smart and safe. I don’t mean to sound alarmist it wasn’t meant to. I have been reading some horror stories from locations that were considered very safe for tourists like Bahamas. Even the all inclusive places in DR have been sketchy (rape and murder). I am stunned but economically it makes sense as people struggle more. Anyway I love PR and you will too
I love PR. I go 3 times a year. Right now there are travel advisories for almost every location. Especially if it is your first trip I would not recommend doing a roaming tour. It isn’t advisable especially for tourists who do not know anything about the places they may end up. Stick to the tours. For the sake of your girlfriend and yourself don’t wander until you are familiar with the area, the guide as well. Be careful do due diligence and understand that you are in a place that is not for you. I love Puerto Rico. I don’t want to have any one get hurt bc they decided adventure in a place with extreme poverty and gun violence are very high. It’s not as dangerous as Mexico but I would not take that chance in 2024. Unfortunately crime has spiked everywhere.
No. There are no crowds at the tourist beaches either.
