Hey yall I was selected as a finalist for a leadership position that requires a 3 minute max speech that includes 3 ideas to better my fraternity and ways to achieve those ideas. I would love some feedback on it so far!

"Good Evening Brothers and Alumni, I stand here excited and encouraged by all of our brothers here tonight, I am here to share with you my passions and the three biggest ideas I have for this position.

Before that, I want to thank all the brothers and alumni who support our fraternity daily. I knew from the moment I joined this fraternity that I had found a home, that I had found friends who wanted nothing but the best for me. Our continued success is a testament to our brothers who give their all every day and our alumni who continuously support our chapters and fraternity long after they are no longer undergrads. However, we must remember that success is not only about numbers on a spreadsheet, success also involves new brothers feeling like they belong when they join our brotherhood. Teaching the history and spirit of our organization allows us to keep building the bonds of brotherhood we were founded upon.

In the spirit of this, the first thing I want to do in this position is to increase the inter-chapter relations between different chapters to allow brothers to genuinely feel like there is an international family that they join when they become brothers. It also allows chapters to ask questions and seek support from other brothers who may be going through the same issues or problems they are. We aren’t perfect, we will mess up, and that’s ok. Having other brothers in our chapter and across the country to support us makes solving those problems much easier. One way this could be achieved is by having chapters partnered with other chapters around their size/shape and establishing a line of communication between those chapters to allow them to exchange ideas and solutions.

Secondly, I want to add resources outside the standard for chapters that may not fit the mold of the others, for example, the AME plan, where the activities and ideas included require group sizes of 6 new members at a minimum. Chapters that may hold smaller initiation classes than that have to come up with things on the fly which makes it much harder to get the ideas and purposes of those sessions. An idea that I had for this was to reach out to chapters that historically have a lower-than-average rush class size to see exactly what has worked for them in order to create a better and more inclusive set of recommendations.

Finally, the last idea I want to share tonight is this. Everyone in this room is a brother, whether or not you are currently an undergraduate or you graduated 30 years ago. We are brothers for life. We must remember, however, that we all joined DY for unique reasons, whether it be the people, the culture, or anything else. We all also have a unique story that deserves to be told. Brothers deserve to be highlighted, for this, I want HQ to start a weekly post that highlights a brother from around the country. It could be any chapter or any brother. This not only allows us to highlight the unique circumstances that brought us all together, but it also allows brothers and interested men to see what and who DY is.Not only at their school, but the international family we truly are. If I get this position I promise to always put brothers first, to build better men, and to truly continue the tradition that our fraternity passes down to each brother. Dikaiai Upotheka!"
