I'm building out a tech startup and that means wearing a lot of hats. My newest job - figure out how the heck to pitch to journalists.
Last month, I worked with some major players in my industry to write up a column with some really significant content. My column contains revalations about my industry that borders on major news, along with exclusive quotes from some relatively famous/important people in my industry. When I started pitching it I expected it to be explosive.
But instead of journalists breaking down my door...silence. For a month now, I've emailed journalists and publications that write/have written about my topic. Most don't respond at all, and the few who did said they no longer accept outside submissions.
I'm a good writer and my blog posts get a good amount of traction, but this particular column would be perfect for a major publication. I really don't want it to go to waste.
Is my experience normal?
Are there are any good resources to help someone get started with media outreach and PR?
Thanks in advance.

Both will work out a specific pricing structure but you can expect to pay between £3k and £5k p/a. I’m assuming you’re UK if you’re considering those.
