Hey! I am a second year CAP (child and adolescent psychiatry trainee) in Hungary. I am wondering what is the route to become a CAP specialists in your countries?
In Hungary, it is possible to choose CAP as your first speciality for more than 20 years as the shortage of such specialists was so intense that a countermeasure had to be implemented. Currently there are around 60 CAP specialists in the country which is still quite low compared to the population (9.71 million). The structure of the residency has been changed recently, now it takes 56 months to finish it: it is required to work in outpatient/inpatient settings for most of the time during the training, but there are some other obligatory (e.g. few months Children's Emergency Department/ few months adult psych) and optional rotations (e.g. Paediatrics). During the training you have to attend online lectures, moreover you will have to pass three exams throughout the 56 months, before the final exam.
What about you?
