Okay, I have so many questions right now. I just had this intense conversation while smoking with two physics master's students from my university. When they told me they were religious, I already thought that was unusual (most STEM people I know are atheists). But when they said a DMT trip had sparked their faith, I got really curious. Both of them described a similar experience: meeting some kind of supernatural being who guided them onto a train heading toward God. As the train sped up, they realized it would never reach a final destination, because God isn't a specific place or person - it's a concept. Suddenly, they were surrounded by light. This light was the source of everything, holding infinite potential for all possibilities. That was God. But since God couldn't be or perceive "everything," there were subsets within this infinity, governed by specific rules - like our universe, for example. They said things like evil in the world, or suffering like hunger, are inevitable side effects of those ru'~-Both of them said they realized their purpose v is world is to try to harmonize it, to deal with those unintended side effects (to do good). They also talked about the classic stuff - "we are all one" (if I do good for you, l'm practicing self-love) and "there's no good without evil." For example, you can only help others if you're aware of evil and consciously choose to respond to it.
There was so much more, but honestly, I couldn't follow all of it - like infinity, time, good/evil, and ego death. I'd love to understand it all. What even is evil? What does ego death mean, and how does it affect you? What do they mean by "infinity" and all that other stuff? Is it due to a biochemical reaction in the brain triggered by psychedelics that so many people have such similiar experiences? Have any of you had similar experiences? I'm thinking about trying shrooms or DMT because I'm so curious, but I'm scared I'm not ready. How do you even know when you're ready for something like that? Ugh, so many questions.
