Why do some people decide to take such high doses?

Sometimes I read reddit and it seems like a competition, a moment ago I read about a guy who took 14 grams
I'm just genuinely curious about why they made that decision,
At some point were you afraid of losing your mind forever?
Did you have any learning or positive experiences after the trip?
My maximum dose was 3 grams and it was such a strong, pleasant and overwhelming experience that the last thing I think about is increasing the dose.
