"Can't connect to the internet"

Hi, I downloaded ProtonVPN yesterday and today I noticed that when I leave my laptop for a while/shut it and open it again from the standby modus, that I can't use Safari anymore. My wifi signal is good according to the laptop and the Discord app on desktop works great too. So I assume it's a safari/ VPN issue. What can I do? I don't want to restart my laptop everytime I get back from a break, especially since I keep a bunch of tabs and windows open while I work on stuff.
