Should I use customized domain?

Hi!
New to proton, I was a victim from googles privacy, and plan to move.
However I have problem on picking up username, I have a common first and last name and it seems like all possible names are picked up. Should I consider to reg a domain to use proton?
I don’t think I would use multiple alias, and no way my domain is .com, maybe firstname.xyz or .pro or .fyi
Any suggestions?
