My good friend is a Cheyenne Indian, politically active, involved in his peopleās cultural and spiritual practices. He suffers a lot because of his diabetes, which has led to one leg being amputated below the knee, and as well as all the toes of the other foot.
These amputations have worsened his diabetes, as he finds it nearly impossible to walk or exercise with the obsolete prosthetic that heās had for years, which is basically just a metal post and an uncomfortable socket on top of a metal foot that doesnāt flex. No joints or anything.
I have been wondering for some time 1) how to find the best prosthesis for his specific situation and 2) if any programs exist for Native Americans and or disabled citizens to get funding for a prosthesis or set of prostheses that would allow him to walk, run, ride horses again. Also whether there are ātoe prostheticsā for his other foot (again, the whole front of the foot was removed)
Any and all resources and advice would be very welcome. Thanks so much and happy new year to everyone on this sub
