Cystoscopy: Numbing Gel or Anesthesia

Hi guys,

I’m scheduled for a cystoscopy on December 3rd. When scheduling the appt the nurse asked if I wanted the procedure done with numbing gel or anesthesia. Due to timing, I opted for numbing gel. Now that I’ve read some 1yr old posts I’m second guessing that decision.

Five questions: 1. Are cystoscopies painful? 2. Should I reschedule and have it done using anesthesia? 3. What is the pain level when peeing afterward? 4. How long does the painful peeing last? 5. Do you go back to work afterwards or do you stay home the rest of the day? Stay home for 2 days?
