How do I change the difficulty of Final mission?

Reached final mission on hard yesterday and failed twice, was a little discouraged and went to bed, decided to try again today and lower the difficulty to normal, usually after briefing you get an option to change difficulty, but since there are no briefing on mission 21 I don't think it's possible to change difficulty? Am I forced to git gud and beat the boss on hard?
