Default phone app and hangouts ring simultaneously when receiving calls

I just installed hangouts and hangouts dialer. Now whenever I receive an incoming call my hangouts app will start ringing, then my phone app will start ringing as well. If I decline the hangouts call, the phone app will keep ringing. If I answer the phone app, hangouts will keep ringing. It's obviously highly annoying and completely dysfunctional. I've rebooted my phone to no avail. I'm using a Pixel 2. Help!
