Deleted the hangouts app. but messages and VMs are still going to Hangouts!!! missing important work communications please Help!

I thought I would try hangouts for my calls and messages. Then decided to just go back to the default phone and messages app on my pixel 2. I deleted hangouts, but now I see that messages and calls are NOT going to my phone, but when I login to my google account from a web browser I see missed calls, voice mails, and messages that have gone to hangouts and not shown up on my phone. I am missing important communications because of this please help!!!
