Why was Famine nerfed?

I didn't play Season 4 so I might have missed this, was Vengeance Pally really good in that season to warrant Famine getting a nerf? Or is it a preemptive nerf in anticipation of the new chaining Vengeance in Season 5?
I don't particularly care about the nerf one way or another, I'm just curious. The vengeance changes seem pretty neat, looking forward to seeing the mechanics, like the %chance of chaining and whatnot.
