AAR discussion for this weekend's Arma sessions
Post Body

Incredible stuff this weekend everyone. Here's a thread where we can share our highlights. I can't wait to see all the videos popping up over the next days/weeks from this weekend's awesome games!

To make it easier for everyone to follow the discussion and reply in the right place, try to keep each session into a separate comment-sections I'll make below. If I missed any feel free to start a new one.

As a reminder:

Mission 1: on Friday we had an impromptu PO with what must have been the most epic derp road convoys ever seen, but by God in the end we captured that T-34/85 after much bloodshed and misplaced satchels, and drove it halfway across Takistan, in the dark, back to our base for the win.

Mission 2: Also on Friday, we ran Graywo1f's FOB Retake with a huge crowd. It was the first time more than a few of you had seen this mission, and the first game with us at all for a couple of you I think. (Naturally, for those of you that know my style) I stole as many radios as I could get my durka hands on, and from what I overheard you all were having an absolute blast working your way through the objectives. I'm glad you liked this one in particular, because it was one of Graywo1f's, and he's the master architect behind our campaign.

Mission 3: We kicked off Saturday night with an absolutely full house of DB. I wasn't in for this one, but I'm told it was a riotous bloodbath, featuring such gems as a helo falling on a fireteam (What in the...? I don't even...) and Rasi navigating Zargabad all by himself like a lone survivor ninja back to his camp for a Blufor win.

Mission 4: After an attempted PO stress test with over 40 players that literally left the server running at frame-per-seconds speeds (seriously, thank you to all of your for helping with that test), we restarted things and still had something in the mid 30's for what was probably the best PO-style game I've seen. We had our most combined-arms force ever: two full squads of aircav infantry, a weapons team raining mortars (a first sight for most of you) and heavy AT, a Bradley putting down awesome fire and close infantry support, and some very handy helo pilots serving as light CAS and super reliable transport. From my hilltop, the most unexpected but powerful sight was the regular reinforcing helo flights going in and out, giving me a real impression of "there's some serious shit down there". Again, we captured a T-34/85 (not without a fight, this one!) and air-lifted it safely back to base for a notch in the "win" column.

One other thing I took away from this weekend: you lot love first-person-only point of view, and I'm absolutely thrilled to hear it. We've always wanted to try it but the one unplanned run of it some months back was fraught with problems and errors and we were worried people would hate it generally. But after this weekend's positive feedback, the campaign will definitely be a first-person-only event, and I couldn't be happier. I dare say we'll leave the main server on first-person-only by default now, and toggle it off by request as opposed to the other way around.
