Note that this an hour later than the usual ThNN. (Sorry about that. Also sorry for the short notice.)
Check out the how to join our server guide for a real quickie on getting the download going. We can try to get someone to help you setup your stuff after we start, but it's super helpful if you can try it on your own first.
So we've got lots of new players lately who want to learn how to Arma/ACE/ACRE/be-useful-and-not-die. That's awesome, but while we're in the middle of a 30 player mission is not the best time to give you a tutorial. But ThNN is!
Even if you know the basics, or you're already an experienced Arma'er, I'd personally really appreciate it if you could show up. We've got players of all skill levels and things will go way easier if we can break up into smaller groups and give each group an instructor who knows the game already. It'll give you a taste of the leadership kind of stuff too, if you want to learn that.
We're going oldschool with this one, covering basics of Arma, ACE, ACRE, and infantry combat. We'll cover some weapons stuff, the medic system, radios, automatic rifleman and anti-tank roles, that kind of stuff.
That comprises the vast majority of our games and how we play. Sometimes we do feature armor or air vehicles, but our heavy assets are always used in a supporting role. You absolutely need to know how the infantry act before you can help them in a more specialized role.
If we can, we'll also cover some basics about Fire Team Leader and Squad Leader roles, because lots of people want to do leadership stuff and with the numbers we're seeing lately, we definitely need people for these roles.
It isn't going to be a fancy ThNN this week, but if you want to know "how do I Arma with H/PA", please show up! All we ask is that you be mature and patient just as you would in a game during the setup phase. We're trying to teach you how to play with us, so don't go running around, or shooting weapons, or jumping in vehicles while we're trying to explain stuff. (Seriously, that's a real concern. We may be super relaxed and casual, but if you can't be mature when we're going out of our way to teach you how to play with us, don't bother showing up for this or our actual games.)
Hang out with us, be relaxed and patient, and we'll try to teach you everything you'll need to know to play a typical game with us. (And hopefully we can get good ones this weekend. Cam's Dark Business sounds awesome, and I've got a new PO version that the devteam would very much appreciate a large scale stability test on.)
