Advice for grad students: How to make a bad first impression
Post Body

It's three easy steps:

  • Step 1: Independently and presumably arbitrarily select a course from another department.
  • Step 2: Request a syllabus so that your advisor can approve the course while telling me nothing about your program, goals, or background. Nevermind that I would need to approve you taking the course.
  • Step 3: Call me "Ms Statman12", simultaneously miss-titling and miss-gendering me (I have a gender-neutral first name, but I am easily Googled).

Also, just as a PSA, "Biostatistics" doesn't mean "Statistics that is better for Biology folks." It's more like Public Health and Biomedical Statistics. That said, it's still just Statistics. And this particular course still requires a good bit of calculus. So, I'll probably see you never.

On the upside, at least it's not just female profs getting "Ms"-ed?
