Printing Newbie - Need advice - Large Format
Post Body

Hey guys.

So I recently bought an HP Designjet 130nr (from Craigslist) that appears to be completely mechanically sound. It does all the paper grabbing and printhead moving it needs to. However during colour and alignment tests, it was shown that the heads were no good. I checked and they all expired as of '11 but I tried to fix them with this kit, and as of now it looks like I may have busted the Magenta. In any case this can't possibly be a viable long term solution. So I need to probably get new heads altogether.

My questions:

  • Where do you guys find is the cheapest place to get print heads? (I need LM,M,LC,C,Y in 85 and a B in 84)
  • How do you guys feel about expired printheads ("new" as in still sealed, but well expired...anywhere from '13-'09)?
  • How do you guys feel about off-brand (non OEM) inks? This question is a bit tangential but I was just curious because it's so much cheaper.

Thanks everybody! I know this printer is known to have its problems, but it really matched what I needed and it was available in the area.

Bonus Question:

  • Where do you guys recommend getting rolls of paper/canvas/etc? Online I'm guessing but maybe there's a brick & mortar store that's better? How about Ebay (I suppose the question also is: are generic papers and canvases any good)?
