Last weekend, I was watching a match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester United, as part of which I witnessed a decision made by the referee go against United, which in turn allowed Nottingham Forest a throw in. However, United's playmaker Bruno Fernandes was absolutely incensed at the decision, and in response, hurled out a bunch of "F**k off mate"s at the on-field referee, the linesmen and basically every person of authority that he could find.
I do understand that cuss words nowadays tend to form an important part of the vernacular employed by people as part of interpersonal conversations, which is why I am perfectly fine with the idea of such words being used among teammates. However, to what extent can the same be done towards referees in the Premier League? Would you say that such acts should be regulated tightly?
I personally would hesitate to direct such words at a referee knowing that they had the power to send me off from a match too, and besides, even opposition can be expressed in a sophisticated manner, although I am eager to find out what other Premier League fans think! Did Bruno manage to get away with something here, or is it all normal and regular in the Premier League?
