Hello everybody!
In my job, I'm working with Power BI Report Builder. I'm not gonna go into all that stuff like how the UI is terrible, how it is just a copy of a tool from previous century, how I think Microsoft doesn't care about this tool, etc. I think it is all true but that is not why I'm here. Person came to me with a project and asked me whether 'this is possible in Report Builder'. I couldn't answer the question because I haven't found anybody online who would use Report Builder for such a case. And also many things are 'possible', but that doesn't mean that the tool is right for it.
This is a short description of the project:
A 'deck' of reports. Basically a one PDF/PPTX file, with like 30 pages/slides, but not all pages contain the same report. For example - first a cover page, then Table of contents page, then one page might have a table, another page might have a chart, third page might have another different table, which could be 'looped' on next 10 pages with different input parameters, etc. Every page should also have a page number, some header and footer, which are not always the same for every page. This ONE file should then be 'generated' with one click on a dashboard.
Is this good usecase for Report Builder? I only saw people building one page reports or multiple page reports with one table looped over 500 pages, but never seen somebody building something this complex. Microsoft official docks also does not showcase or mention such usecase. Neither in possibilities, nor in limitations.
Thanks in advance for all answers!
