Affordable Houses you can buy in places that don't suck
Post Body

Obviously, housing is a major cost for people and a significant part of a PovertyFIRE person's finances. I'm also a huge fan of home ownership.

I want to gather a list of places where you can find affordable homes that aren't in terrible places. Often, inexpensive homes are inexpensive for a reason. But there are places where housing is reasonable in areas that don't suck.

For example, I'm in the process of moving to Pensacola, FL. The downtown has recently been redone, bringing lots of shops, restaurants, and bars. The neighborhoods right around downtown are in the process of gentrification and you can find houses 5 minutes from downtown for ~50k or less. These houses have been neglected as people fled to the suburbs but now people want to be near the hip new downtown. Pensacola has tons of breweries and is minutes from Pensacola Beach which has beautiful white sand beaches.

After purchasing my house for ~50k and renovating it for about another 20k, my monthly housing cost will be about $250/mo including property taxes, insurance, and utilities.

What are some other places you know of with low cost housing that doesn't suck?
