Does pottery continue to produce noxious gases on the cool down cycle?

Post Body
I have a tiny test kiln which I suspect is cooling too fast after the firing cycle. I was wondering if I could shut off the downdraft for the hotter part of the cool down (say the first 400C) so it cools more gradually.
Does pottery continue to offgas after the firing cycle or does it continue to produce noxious crap as long as it is hot?
