I (25F) recently bought a treadmill. My goal is to get 10k steps a day which I usually do by walking for one hour intervals twice a day at 2.5 mph. I’ve been doing this more or less for a month now (sometimes walk more, most of the time walk less). The issue is it has drastically increased my mid-back pain.
I have acute kyphosis with an abnormal forward curve in my thoracic spine. This condition also causes my hamstrings to be extremely tight and makes standing upright difficult. I know the obvious answer here would be to stretch more and do exercises that strengthen my core and other muscles but I’m really looking for a quick solution that will alleviate my back pain while walking.
I was doing some research and found posture correctors. I know they’re kind of controversial as they may weaken your muscles even more as you become dependent on them, but I’m hoping they can help keep me in an upright position while I walk and keep some of the strain off my back. I am not looking at them as a solution for correcting my posture just for managing my pain with the added exercise. Does anyone have any experience with this?
