I have a number of posters and maps that are held in frames larger than they are, and place them on top of a sheet of poster board, rather than behind a matte.
In the past I’ve had trouble with prints slipping to the bottom of their frames over time. What I’ve done for a few is paint the backboard with a thin coat of rubber cement in the corners of where the print will go, let it dry, then place the print over it, so it’s not adhered but the friction of the rubber prevents it from slipping down. However I’ve recently learned that over time rubber cement degrades and produces acid, so I’m currently removing that from all of my frames that used that method.
Are there any sorts of archival quality adhesives or tapes that can prevent slipping? I’d ideally use something like a removable double sided tape, or a friction tape I could apply to the backing, but I can’t find anything that quite meets that description. Any suggestions?
