We were wrong...
How could we be so blind as to the truth, how could we let this horror happen under our watch? The fact the Empire let this nightmare happen is a result of our hubris and imperial arrogance that has only led to our self-destruction. Perhaps no poetic justice comes close to this. No! NEVER AGAIN! This conflict has shaken the nation's beliefs to its very core, and on the brink of civil war, all it took for the cards to come crashing down is a simple choice. In their quest for greater power glory, the Imperialists have instead, driven the Empire to its limits, becoming an international pariah, betraying the trust of our closest allies, all hopes of a Polynesian Empire that rules the Seven Seas unquestioned, dashed once our mightiest warships lie at the bottom of the blue beyond.
Admiral Taro knows very well the many sins of the Polynesian Empire. He was ahead of the rest in his intuition of the future. He has seen this before, in history books, of empires resting on their laurels, turning arrogant and rotten, only to fall apart at the seams. If Polynesia is to have a bright future ahead of her, she must let go of lofty ambitions, of imperialism of all stripes. Let the past die, kill it if necessary, only then will Polynesia know peace as it did during its heyday.
An earnest apology is deserved by the hundreds of thousands of civilians whose lives were uprooted by this conflict. Perhaps not much can be done with simple virtue signaling, concrete action must be taken to regain the public's trust. While a comprehensive government reform plan is in the works, resources, cash, and reconstruction will have to do for now. This will increase our deficit significantly and might leave us in debt for years, but it is the right thing to do. We shall invest 3 billion Taras into the Tasmanian people themselves as well as build new housing projects, electrification, fresh plumbing, healthcare, and other services interrupted during the war. We must make it known to the Australian people living within our borders that we are in the dawn of a new age, one where Polynesia threw off the shackles of fascism on its own two feet and shall never again let it threaten its people.
