Although the Maitreya and his Four Bodhisattvas ruled over Tanggute with an iron fist, they were largely uninterested in actual governance and thus left a vacuum that had to be filled. Across Tanggute there were leftovers from the old People's Republic of Tibet and thus Communist officials, there were Tibetan Monks who were left alone during the Maitreya's conquest, and even Tibetan feudalists who ruled over their baronies and villages like lords. One of the most important leftovers was the Gelug school. Although the Maitreya ruled over Tanggute as the supposed Buddha who was prophesised, the Tibetan Gelug monks worked underground to prepare their return and to remove the heretical Maitreya. Deep within the mountains of Tanggute and within hidden monasteries sat a young man, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, 15th Dalai Lama of the Gelug school. Although he was not accepted nor even known about by the Bodhisattvas or the Maitreya, he had the support of a vast majority of the Tibetan monks who still practiced their unadulterated Buddhist faith.
The Dalai Lama sat in his hidden monastery looking over his followers. They were not the Buddhist monks of old, these were veteran warriors who had fought against the Maitreyan bandits, they had seen the invasion and they had survived. These monks were ones to hide handguns and submachine guns under their robes in order to conduct liberations of political prisoners or hunting down heretical bandits. The chatter quieted down as the Dalai Lama stood up and raised his hands.
"Buddha always teaches us about forgiveness, tolerance, compassion. However, the Buddha had never faced such a evil man as we have. All problems used to be solved through dialogue, through talk, however this is outdated. Violence is the only way forward for the salvation of our school and of Tanggute. Today begins the Era of Dorje Shugden, the protector of Je Tsongkhapa's pure dharma."
After he had spoke his second in command, the Panchen Lama handed him a jewel encrusted sword and bowed deeply. The Dalai Lama unsheathed the sword and raised it to the sky.
"The end of the reign of the false Buddha begins now. Tanggute will never be under the reign of a bandit-king again, we will establish our place at our ancestral home. With the assistance of all of you and with our friends in the northern reaches we will win this spiritual war."
His monks bowed down deeply, some revealing their handguns hidden in the belts of their robes. The Maitreyan bandits wouldn't know what hit them.
