Since the 1998 General Election, the Worker's Party has been governing Polynesia alongside a grand coalition of socialists, liberals, and technocrats to guide the Empire towards a prosperous tomorrow. According to the party and the coalition, Vercroe's tenure has been marked by exponential economic growth, industrialization, the development of grand cities, infrastructure projects, and of course her jewel in the crown of achievements, increasing literacy by 40% elevating the Polynesian population to be the second most educated country in the world with millions of literate souls alongside the extraordinary increase of Polynesia's skilled worker populations from 19% to 43% of the country being talented workers. the WP's "Think Big" program has been highly popular amongst the public and working-class and government investment has greatly improved the people's lives.

However... this view ignores the bigger picture that shadows Polynesia, While indeed Vercroe's government has been marked with aggressive government spending, this has ignored the dangerous fact of a rapidly overflowing deficit that threatens to increase the country's debt to GDP ratio 10x it's the original size. Most of the blame has to do with the lack of liquidity following the Millenium Financial Crisis which Vercroe has mitigated with lingering effects, Polynesia's reliance on foreign imports which prices have risen as a result of the crash increased the budget deficit to an unsustainable degree. Despite Vercroe's herculean efforts, the Polynesian bureaucracy is a highly stubborn leviathan and will take years before it is streamlined. Economists estimate that if nothing changes and we continue going into debt, Polynesia might face a chronic debt crisis in 10 years Conservatives balk at the government expenses being run and demand emergency budget cuts and austerity measures to balance the budget, while developmentalists argue that without these imports and government programs, the country will stagnate compared to its neighbors and not to mention it's rivals.

Then there is another issue afoot: "What is Polynesia's role in the world" As of 2001, several major wars broke out and escalated throughout Asia, the collapse of multiple nations into civil war and destitution, and the potential and imminent reunification of major global players such as the Soviet Union, Japan, and China. Surprisingly enough both for the opposition and her own party, Vercroe's view was that of a firebrand:

"Our role? We ask you fellow citizens what do we cherish the most? Democracy that is, We are lucky that our great nation is as stable as it is right now. As the world collapses around us, democracy is a frail idea that requires effort, cooperation, and trust for it to work, The world seems to not have either of these three things, thus it is not a safe place for democracy to thrive. Thus it is our objective to ensure the security and stability of all democratic nations worldwide, perhaps this is the only way that democracy in the world and our own can survive and thrive, Should other democratic states be toppled they will fall like dominoes if not united. Our powers may be limited but we believe to be the best fit for leading the defense of democracy abroad. National Security and the freedom of all peoples depend on it."

Alas, the hopes and dreams of the doves have been firmly dashed. As the final tallies rolled in. The Imperial Association Party returned to power alongside a potent coalition, aligned with the Polynesian Progressive Party, the Moanas and Marinas Party, and most interesting of all: the Toa Expansionist Bloc arrived into the coalition with stark opposition from multiple officials. The extremist TEB party's ambitious territorial expansionist plans threaten peace for the Empire. As of today, the Empire has taken a more decidedly militaristic tone. Bells ring across the country in a bad omen for the coming storm.
