The Five Harmonious Guilds in Kiangsi were more than met the eye, to the rest of the world they were merely oligarchies that controlled large swathes of the Kiangsi economy but in reality they were the heads of large crime families that orchestrated the drug trade in Asia. As the families are major drug producers they found themselves catching the eye of the NKVD who requested the fabrication of psychoactive 'happy pills'. The families had already had requests from the Kuomintang in producing these pills that'll improve people's moods however they declined as the pills were to be mandated to all of Kiangsi.

The pill is known as Xiyuè, or, Joy. Xiyuè is made up of a cocktail of various drugs that when put into combination create a strong uplifting feeling, decreased appetite, memory loss, less anxiety, some mild sensory hallucinations, and in extreme doses; psychosis and aggression. The drug cocktail is made up of a synthetic blend of Methamphetamine, Methyl​enedioxy​methamphetamine, Oxycodone, and Lysergic acid diethylamide. When people take a Xiyuè pill, it lasts up to 12 hours and has a half life of 4 hours. The effects are usually felt within the first 10-30 minutes and they won't start coming down off Xiyuè until 13-14 hours.

Xiyuè is extremely dangerous in high doses and due to the memory loss it is common for users to take extra, and then more, and then more which leads them into a dangerous psychosis where they become increasingly violent. In a normal dose the user will be in a heightened state and act a lot more agreeable and a lot more trusting to people which can be utilised in numerous different ways.

The first shipments will be sent out to NKVD agents who will use them for whatever they seem fit.
