The United States of Sinai is a two-party dominant republic founded upon the values of liberty and freedom. It is an evolution of the previous states within Sinai that sought to ensure peace and freedom for all within the peninsular, taking influence from the liberal democracies of Europe and the United States. Sinai has not always been peaceful and prosperous however, with the country only just coming out of a military Junta after years of protests and a somewhat bloody revolution known as the "Blue Spring" due to the blue flags the protestors used. The Blue Spring even though technically a victory split the nation in two, with the USS owning North Africa and the Sinai People’s Republic owning Sinai proper creating an uneasy division between the two Egyptian forces. The Blue Spring was led by two coalitions; the first being politicians and business owners and the second being workers and liberal-leaning soldiers. These two coalitions helped dismantle the Junta that ruled over Sinai for 20 years, instituting constitutional reform and the destruction of oppressive institutions that had led a reign of terror over the Egyptian people. The two coalitions evolved into the two largest political parties in Sinai, the Grand Old Party (GOP) and the Young Officers Movement (YOM). The GOP evolved into a more conservative and religious political party that promotes a mix of libertarianism and laissez-faire economics. The YOM however went a different route due to their more lower-strata support. The YOM has formed an ideology based on liberalism but has many inner-caucuses that fall anywhere from progressivism to democratic socialism. The two parties even though they supported each other through the Blue Spring now vie at each other's throat for control of the House and the Senate, forgetting the once-united front.
With the Blue Spring completed the government and it's institutions are very young and new. The politics of Sinai are very volatile with the military being informally divided between the two major parties despite their call of bipartisanship. The military was formed from the two militias of the coalitions, the Republican Guard (GOP) and the Emergency Forces (YOM) and still they hold loyalties to their political parties that had so far funded and armed them. Due to the disunited military any election that occurs has the fear that one party will simply not accept the results and another civil war will begin. In order to prevent this the government has begun to try and integrate the two militias fully into the Sinai Armed Forces rather than let them keep their autonomy.
With such a young Republic there are many things that can go wrong, especially with President Mohamed having a tumultuous control over the government and the military.
