Rhodes is a nation built upon the principles of liberty and the premise of rule of law. The Commonwealth has decided that they would legalise the possession and growing of Marijuana, as well as the sale of said drug. The federal lawmakers of Rhodes have also decided to release any and all prisoners who have been locked away for Marijuana related crimes, whether that was dealing, growing, or possessing the plant. Under the guide of Supreme Court Judge, Abraham Jones, the push for legalisation was supported by essentially all political parties apart from the White Citizen's Council. With the legalisation of the drug, business opportunities will open up and the government is said to gain 1.3 million dollars from taxation and corporate pension (Even with the low tax rate of Rhodes at 18%).
Instead of bloating the government of Rhodes, the regulation of Marijuana (taxes, etc) will be placed under the Drug and Alcohol Council of Rhodes, the same council that regulates alcohol, prescription medication, and psychiatric medication. However, groups that use Marijuana as a religious entheogen will be given more free reign with their amount and growing rights, but they will pay the exact same tax just as any other corporation.
Already with the legalisation being approved by the Senate and the House (which won't come into practice until March) large businesses have bought up land and registered themselves within the Rhodian Business Commission. The largest is 'Cannacorp' and the 'Harborside Health Center'. However, while it is federally legalised this does not mean every state or county of Rhodes has legalised the usage or growing of Marijuana which will be a longer process based on which political party has control of the region.
