History:

The Commonwealth of Rhodes was formed after the fall of the illegitimate state of 'The Authority of the Cascades'. It was formed by an alliance of libertarian and survivalist groups that had held out in the Pacific Northwest, fighting a guerrilla war against the remnants of the corporatist state. After a short but bloody war, Major Hank Grady of the Rhodian 3% Movement led his forces to victory and united the different militias and local groups under one banner. On winning the war, a Republic was formed, the Commonwealth of Rhodes. Initially Major Grady was planning on returning to his life as a homesteader in the rural town of Calhoun, but the new Commonwealth needed a ruler that all knew and loved so Major Grady became Governor of the Commonwealth.

Governor Grady became known locally as the 'American Caesar', a man who only had civic duty in mind and not the pursuit of power and money. As his first act of Governor, he brought back the 2nd Amendment of the United States and made it the first official 'Holy Law' that would never be altered nor changed. Rhodes would be a nation of well-armed citizens that could defend their homes till the end of days. He also instituted a policy of conscription within local militias as to keep his citizens well trained in the weapons they now legally could own. The nation of Rhodes would be one of liberty, equity, and fraternity. Taking influence from the old America as well as the French Republic (both only found through old texts), Rhodes would strive to ensure liberty is found across the known world and no oppression would go untouched.

The Commonwealth of Rhodes is rather similar to the old American Republic in the fact that they have a bicameral legislature known as the House and the Senate of Rhodes. The House has 250 seats while the Senate has 80. A House Representative serves a term of 5 years while a Senator serves a term of 10 years, however, both can be removed early based on citizen action or legal action. There are no bans on what sort of party can run, from Fascists to Communists, all are allowed the right of free speech within Rhodes. However, there are also no laws against citizen action against these groups. Vigilante and posse comitatus are legal actions against politicians and political parties in Rhodes so it is not uncommon for politicians to hire private security companies.
