Egads!

It was all over the news across New York, the Great Admiral Saxton, dead! How could have this happened? Assassination? Illness? The flu? What could have possibly killed the Great Admiral who had led New York into the great state it was today? Only the inner council of the Admiralty knew the true cause of his death, it wouldn't be smart to tell the public the true cause. With the Admiral dead, there would be a interim government put in place before they could choose another Admiral to rule over New York.

The Admiralty will be placed under the control of the Admiral Oversight Commission and the Sea Organisation, however, already schisms have begun to erupt between the two factions. The AOC has already shown support for a secular, military government until the struggles of New York are placated while the SO have put forward placing the Admiralty under the Sea Organisation's control. While the Sea Organisation holds a lot of support within the government and within the upper-class of New York, meanwhile the AOC has the support of the lower and middle class where most of the military is within. The AOC has most seats within the government and holds most legislative power, but the SO holds all religious power and thus the support of the most powerful within New York.

Even people with the most basic understanding of politics know that once a power vacuum occurs, all will fight to fill that vacuum. New York already had problems with factional infighting, but with the death of Saxton, the only person holding New York together, the Admiralty has fallen into political chaos. Hopefully the military will stay absent from the political infighting, but with the AOC already calling for the support of the National Guard and the SO using their own private holy order soldiers to establish control in their regions, it doesn't seem like there will be much more peace in New York.

The other factions within New York: The Scientific Neo-Socialist Bloc (4 seats), The Board of Directors (10), and The Citizen's Councils (20) have not declared for either side and are instead just trying to hold onto their own power. Each faction has their own private paramilitary groups yet none wish to endanger the stability of the Admiralty, apart from the SNSB who are quite happy to fight against all groups due to their Self-Reliance ideology.

The power of each faction is as follows (weakest to strongest):

Scientific Neo-Socialist Bloc: 300 Men.

The Board of Directors: 700 Men.

The Citizen's Councils: 1600 Men.

The Sea Organisation: 8000 Men.

The Admiral Oversight Commission: 11,000 Men.

All of these factions hold Paramilitary groups who are primarily untrained militants, not soldiers. Only the Sea Organisation and the Admiral Oversight Commission hold any form of training outside of political theory.
