Official Name: The State of Utah
Short Name: Utah
Capital: Salt Lake City
History: As calamity strikes the Earth and a great deluge rocks the coast, Utah survives. As the great Union collapses, Utah survives. And as the rest of the world returns to barbarism, Utah thrives. As famines and droughts harass the lands, the Government of Utah remains.
Despite Utah's obvious independence, the nation maintains many old traditions and naming conventions that hark back to the old Union– the territory is controlled by a continuation of the old state government, lead by an elected Governor, policies are crafted by the Utah State Legislature, and the Constitution of the State of Utah is held in high regard. These traditions are maintained because the spirit of the United States and the spirit of freedom live on within the Utahan people. Some institutions even continue to fly the old flag of the United States.
Salt Lake City has become a beacon of democracy in the darkness– a new colossus that welcomes the weak, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breath free. The State of Utah is a land of opportunity, where the American Dream lives on. While the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their adherents remains a powerful institution that strongly influences culture, politics, and daily life, they are a patriotic organization that has been tamed by the State. After all, there shall be no union of Church and State, nor shall any church dominate the State or interfere with its functions– it's right there, in Article I, Section 4 of the State constitution. Utah respects freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom from want (although this part has become muddled) and freedom from fear.
Governor Tanner Karter will protect the freedom of the Utahan people. When his term is up, his successor will be elected by the Utahan people to continue to protect the freedom of the Utahan people forevermore.
