[EVENT] A New Kamchatkan Fleet

Post Body

With the mass meeting of minds and manpower in Ravendeng, the process of designing a new fleet has become an unexpected side benefit. With the importation of proper naval materials from India, now has become the ideal moment to reclassify the remnants of the old fleet and build something new.

Existing Ships

Gui Class - LSN Destroyer

An old ship dating to the Republic, it is a fast and well constructed vessel capable of surviving several hits - best proved by it's status as the only military vessel to survive the Hokkaido War. While relatively small, it packs just enough of a punch with it's collection of 130mm, 50 Caliber naval guns for it to retain it's position as a main fleet warship.

This ship is named as it's class Gui, or Ghost. This and the Zhen Class below are named after the Twenty-Eight Mansions, a relic of a Republican tradition of using Chinese cultural artifacts as naming conventions.

Zhen Class - TSN Liner

Two converted Luxury Liners based on old world designs, these ships are massive and inefficient. The ships are designed to a few hundred people in comfort, but have been converted to hold 1000 people with space to spare. The large size and compartmentalisation that ensues is an unexpected boon, despite it's increased cost, allowing the ship a considerable amount more durability in a fire fight, and space for basic defencive weaponry on deck. These ships are retained from the end of the Hokkaido War, where they were finished too late to be properly used.

These ships are named Zhen, or Chariot, and Yi, or Wings.

New Ships

Kraxie Class - TSN Transport

With the specified goal of protecting the Archipelago, the new fleet has a requirement of being able to transport a single Goshan along with the fleet. To this end, the Kraxie was designed as a cheaper alternative to the Zhen, designed to carry a similar load but in a much smaller size. In order to retain the same speeds, the hull has been shrunk significantly. The craft therefore is much more vulnerable to enemy assualt, but also over $1m equivalent cheaper per model. Initial thought dictated that this would allow larger fleets with soldiers spread across them, but currently only four of these craft are being commisioned, to meet minimum demand.

In 2151 four craft have begun construction, each named in Volchi for a crustacean. The Kraxie, Lomar, Mollyanti, and Pauk-Zhizhu. They are expected to launch in early 2153.

Yiroy Class - LSAS Flotilla Commander

The unique problem of Kamchatkas enormous coastline relative to it’s popuilation and military potential has a number of expected solutions. The Primary solution is coastal fortifications, to be begun in the next half decade, but it was also found that a high speed response group was a necessity to conduct low level tasks such as recon for air groups, raiding, and dealing with smugglers. A single Coastal defence group has been commissioned, at it’s heart the Flotilla Commander. Equipped with command and control equipment, it is capable of quickly relaying commands to and from the rest of the fleet, as well as pinging locations and objectives. It is also equipped with depth charges and sonar as an additional precaution against commerce raiders.

In 2151 a single Yiroy is to be built, named for the modern hero Lu Pan who died during the Siberian Campaign. It is expected to launch early 2154, and the Gui LSN Destroyer will operate in it’s role until the ship is fit for duty.

Zhi Class - LSN Frigate

A class of small and fast ships, usually armed with torpedoes and a series of 35 pounder equivalent turrets. These ships were designed to navigate the small waterways along the coastlines that cropped up often along old river routes. Along with the Yiroy, this was the fast response that was required by the state. Highly compacted and with a mere 50 crewmates, these ships were capable of surprising speeds and tight manoeuvrability that allowed them to remain viable against agile smaller craft. At a low $2.5 million price point, they were seen as ships to be purchased and sailed in tight packs of anywhere from 6 to 24. It was hoped that in conjunction with their Flotilla Commander, they would be capable of properly patrolling a sea zone without the intervention of the Warfleet.

In 2151 an initial six ships are to be constructed, with six more following in 2153. If this initial batch are successful, then the Government intends to buy an additional 36 to provide widespread coastal defence.

They are to be named after cities and towns, with the first six being: Ravendeng, Nangorod, Pingstvo, Zhost, Oloy, Ombaam.

Shan Class - LSN Destroyer

The most difficult ship to design was the Shan. Being the workhorse of the fleet and the base of the Warfleet, it was a ship that had to both conduct all wartime naval activities in some form, as well as hold its own in an active firefight. For this task, a number of Russian naval designs were poured over, specifically the Gnevny-class and the Soobrazitelnyy-class. Although unable to quite reach the requirements for these ships, a bastardised version, the Shan was constructed along the similar design principles. The Shan then is a 1,500 - 2,000 tonne vessel equipped with redundant engine units. It is slower than it’s design suggests due to greater armour and hull integrity to aid in the difficult waters of the Sea of Kamchatka. This is deemed acceptable due to it’s role as a warship. It features a full compliment of weaponry to deal with the large variety of expected problems, including depth charges and AA guns, though it’s main focus is it’s anti-ship armaments. This includes a large number of torpedo tubes, seen as it’s primary means of effecting the outcome of battle.

Unlike the rest of the fleet, the Shan Class has two designed alternatives to fit specific naval roles within the fleet.

The Shan LSAA T2151a is the design for a ship that replaces most of it’s turrets with dual purpose cannons aimed at augmenting fleet anti aircraft coverage. This requires a significantly greater crew, and an upgraded radio rig to coordinate with coastal air-force wings, but is expected to shield the fleet from unwanted air attention.

The Shan LSAS T2151b, on the other hand, is a ship designed specifically for anti submarine duty, stripping out it’s torpedo bays to make room for a powerful active sonar rig and triple stock depth charges. It also features an upgraded if less efficient engine to allow it to chase down detected submarines and return to formation safely.

Both of these designs are entirely on paper for the moment, and they are expected to be updated before entering production.

Given it’s role as the expected workhorse, the First Citizen insists on a limited initial run to prove capability. Therefore only four Shan class vessels will be constructed in the initial run, expected to arrive in 2154. Barring unexpected delays, an additional six are to be constructed in 2154, ready for 2156, and six more along with two Type A and one Type B variants arriving for 2157.

They are to be named after the 35 Fires, rendering the first four ships: Shan Sopka, Shan Shiveluch, Shan Kronotsky, and Shan Ksudach.

Sheneda Class - HSN Cruiser

Where the Shan are the workhorses of the fleet, lessons learnt in the Hokkaido war proved that heavy weapons platforms were required to win battles. The Sheneda is the embodiment of lessons learnt from that war. A high quality vessel heavily armed and armoured at the expense of speed, the Sheneda are designed to lead or augment Warfleet operations that require enemy ships to be sunk with impunity. With a large compliment of crew and a series of massive turrets, these vessels were based on technical readouts of the Svetlana Class Cruiser. Though significantly altered, they successfully matched and improved upon the armament and armour of the craft, while hitting a terrifying 7000 tonne wight and a massive 170m length - dwarfing the Shan ships. This size was the designs only significant detriment, as it prevented the ships from operating in certain waters without significant ferrying.

However, despite the drawbacks, the Sheneda design was approved and one ship is to be commissioned in 2152 - to be named Natali after the only significant Kamchatkan naval victory of the Hokkaido War. It is expected to arrive in 2153, with three more to be commissioned in 2154, ‘56, and ‘58 respectively.

Ravendeng Class - HSSS Submarine

The lessons learnt of the Hokkaido war also exptend to the viability of Submarine combat. As Kamchatka is always expected to maintain a smaller fleet than outside threats, a commission planning for the construction of a Submarine base at newly acquired Ombaam has been approved. Two designs were drawn up, the first being an anti-capital ship vessel intended to stalk enemy supply lines and repair routes to assassinate enemy ships as they attempt to withdraw or reinforce. It is fitted with a large number of experimental innovations stolen from Hokkaido, and is based on a few of their designs as well. The result is a ‘mish-mash’ vessel with a relatively long range but relatively few torpedoes, suiting it for long range single target assaults rather than prolonged scouting efforts. It is incredibly expensive, even more so than the Shenedas, and as such it’s production has been put off for the present.

Current official timeline puts the construction of a single Ravendeng starting in 2153 for completion around 2157. It’s name has not been picked, though it’s class name means Equality which predicts an equally virtuous title.

Pingstvo Class - LSSS Submarine

Like it’s brother the Ravendeng, the Pingstvo is still under some tinkering. It’s design currently is a suprisingly cheap short range vessel aimed at allowing for three day tours in the Bering Strait or the Kamchatka Sea, to aim at shipping and supply. The ships can be best described as 33% Torpedos and 33% Fuel, eluding to their incredible fragility. They are a stopgap solution in the development of a submarine fleet, and are expected to be phased out after a mere handful of decades. None the less, they are low budget craft and are thus planned for construction.

Very little can be said of substance due to the fluctuating design, but there are eight of these ships expected to be constructed before the end of the decade, slated at two at regular intervals, so 2154, 2156, 2158, and 2160. Each will take just under one and a half years to construct, meaning the first ships will arrive in the field in mid 2154 - to be stationed in Ravendeng until the facility at Ombaam is ready to house them. Despite the class name Pingstvo, there has been no announced naming convention for these ships, a poor omen.

Despite the design issues, two Pingstvo class ships are being constructed at Ravendeng at the moment, though there is little word on what their design actually intends to be. It seems as if the First Citizen has insisted upon their construction ahead of schedule, and these first ships should they be completed at all, will arrive in early 2153. Presumably they will be named.

Di Yi Grazhdanin

Finally a note is to be made of the planned Flagship, the First Citizen. This vessel is to be constructed at considerable expense in 2152, and is expected to take three years to produce. The ship best resembles a Battlecruiser, with a considerable amount of weaponry hoisted onto a relatively small design, and speed mandated above armour. The considerations of speed had to be made to allow the Warfleet to traverse the vast coastline of Kamchatka as quickly as possible to reach a warzone. The sacrifice is obvious in it’s slim top heavy design. It’s cost in immense and all of that cost goes into the religious treatment this craft is slated to receive, with custom fitted components. While many of the other ships in the fleet are equipped to share components if necessary, the Di Yi is truly unique, with a series of factories being constructed entirely to support it’s maintenance. This ship is to be the heart of the fleet, and capable of standing toe to toe with any oncoming enemy with it’s crew of 1000 and it’s array of heavy turrets.

This ship is expected to remain in service for decades, the heart and soul of the Warfleet, and the only ship capable of supporting armed forces in the field. It’s name reflects it’s importance, and it is planned to be the only ship of it’s type.
