Post Body

Captain Donnelley was fusion. Where was his First Mate? He had sent Tony into town to find some new cabin boys to fill out his crew. After all the government was now paying a subsidy $2 per day for every pair of hands on board his schooner. How else was he supposed to pay off the mortgage on his second home if he couldn't fill every single berth on board?

But that might be Tony in the distance. There he was walking down the street with six youths in tow. That should be enough to fill the remaining berths on board. Donnelley began ordering his men to prepare to set sail.

But then, as Tony grew closer, Donnelley grew dismayed. "Are those girls??" He shouted to his first mate. "You know it is bad luck to have girls on board ship."

"I'm sorry Cap'n," replied Tony O'Shea, "but there are no boys left in town. They have all shipped out for the war, or have been snatched up by other captains. Good news, though, is that these girls are willing to work for just $2/day."

Captain Donnelley knew that with the government subsidies, this meant free labour. Even if they were only good to clean and gut the fish, it would still give his men more time to haul in the nets. "I guess we'll have to take them."
