At the beginning of 1957 the Red Army consisted of a rag tag mix between legacy WDC partisans, unorganized Red Guard veterans and a small group of organized Soviet-trained troops. By the year, the Red Army now consists of mostly veteran soldiers who have been hardened by the trials of war and the hardships of manning the trenches of the Foster Line. The Red Army Air Force had also seen its fair share of combat, molding its previously untrained corps of pilots into competent fighters capable of standing toe to toe with their peers. With the war looking to continue into its second year with no signs of stopping, the General Staff seeks to extend this level of training and combat experience over to the rest of the armed forces, with experienced veterans being rotated out of frontline duties to train the next generation of soldiers for the motherland.
With many individuals having distinguished themselves in combat, in addition to the rapid expansion of the Red Army, fast tracked promotions have also been common place. The most significant example of this is the Hero of Socialist Labor, John Glenn, who joined the Red Army as a Major, having himself been fast tracked due to his previous stint as an O-2 in the USMC. By the end of 1957, John Glenn is now Major General John Glenn, commanding the 2nd Guards Rifle Division after his valiant defense of Tecumseh in command of the 145th Infantry Brigade, stepping up to take charge when his commanding officer was killed in action.
