Over the course of 1956 the various provinces of the Canadian Prairies have held provincial wide elections in order to send delegates to the 1957 Constitutional Convention of Canada.
Alberta:
In Alberta, the election results unfolded largely as expected, with the Social Credit Party emerging as the undisputed victor. Led by Ernest C. Manning, the party clinched a staggering 15 out of 17 available seats, reaffirming its stronghold in the province. However, amidst this sea of green, a sliver of opposition emerged, with one seat going to the Liberals under James H. Prowse and another to the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) led by Elmer E. Roper.
Results:
- Social Credit Party
- Leader: Ernest C. Manning
- Seats Won: 15/17
- Liberal Party:

- Seats Won: 1/17
- Co-operative Commonwealth Federation

Saskatchewan:
In Saskatchewan, the political landscape bore a close resemblance to its western neighbor. The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, under the leadership of T.C. Douglas maintained its grip on power, securing 13 out of 17 seats. Yet, unlike Alberta, the CCF faced a slightly more resilient opposition, with the Liberals, led by Alexander McDonald, managing to secure four seats. Notably absent from the delegates were the Social Credit Party, led by Joshua Haldeman, and the Conservative Party, led by Alvin Hamilton, which both failed to gain enough traction in any of the ridings to win a seat.
Results:
- Co-operative Commonwealth Federation:
- Leader: T.C. Douglas
- Seats Won: 13/17
- Liberal Party:
- Leader: Alexander McDonald
- Seats Won: 4/17
- Social Credit Party

- Seats Won: 0/17
- Conservative Party:
- Leader: Alvin Hamilton

Manitoba:
It was in Manitoba where the political drama truly unfolded. With a slim one-seat majority held by the CCF, earned in the aftermath of a devastating flood, the stage was set for a fierce battle. Led by a diverse array of leaders, including Douglas Campbell for the Liberals, Lloyd Stinson for the CCF, and Errick Willis for the Conservatives, the race proved to be one of the closest in all of Canada. In a testament to the province's political diversity, the seats were distributed among the parties in a more balanced fashion, with no single party able to claim outright dominance.
