Early in 1956 a large group of politicians, soldiers, and other officials left the temporary capital of Calgary Alberta heading north to reestablish government control over the capital of the province, Edmonton.
Ernest Manning, leader of the Albertan Social Credit Party, as well as other political leaders entered the city to the sites of cheering crowds. Upon entering the Legislative Assembly, a place where Manning had not stood in nearly a year he delivered a speech calling for the unity of both the province and the nation, on how in these trying times we must work together in the name of God and Country.
"While there are many differences between our views and those of the other provinces, we are above all Canadians first!"
