The Spanish Civil War ended in victory for the Republic of Spain but the war has forever scarred the nation. The irreconcilable division between the Spanish people reflecting the politics of their respective predecessor states will present an enormous challenge for the New Republic to resolve. The Provisional Military Junta of the Republic with the end of the war now overstayed their welcome, with the vast majority of the population clamoring for elections and democratic suffrage to be restored and the civilian government established once more. Thus the elections were slated for August 2035 coinciding with the dissolution of the Provisional Military Junta and full restoration of powers of the Cortes Generales. Thus after preparations and campaigning from the main political parties emerging for office, the people headed to the polls to vote for their preferred parties for the first time in decades.

Union de Centro Democratico: 95 seats

Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol: 76 seats

Partido Liberal Democratico Espanol: 50

Partido Cristiano Democrata: 42 seats

Congress of Deputies: 349 seats

Union de Centro Democratico: 123 seats

Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol: 109 seats

Partido Liberal Democratico Espanol: 60

Partido Cristiano Democrata: 57 seats

The results are conclusive with the centrist Union de Centro Democratico gaining a majority in both chambers. Leaders of the UCD have spoken to begin negotiations with the Christian Democrats to form a government. History is being written today as the first peaceful transition of power in Spanish history for decades with the Provisional Junta fulfilling its promise and dissolving. This also marks the first time Spain is ruled by parties not belonging to the original cordon sanitare. A party consisting of moderates, technocrats, men of law, and academia, took advantage of the war exhaustion advocating for a program based on advancing political rights, affirming economic aid to displaced communities, and developing a plan for national reconstruction.

The new Prime Minister Humberto Martinez Sepulveda and President-elect Jeronimo Vasquez de Bastidas were sworn in on August 13th, 2035 culminating the transition of power.
